Degrémont Technologies-Ozonia empowers Ozone Generator Systems by combining the IGS (Intelligent Gap System) and MODIPAC™ technologies

Degrémont Technologies-Ozonia combines the IGS (Intelligent Gap System) Dielectric Technology and the MODIPAC™ - Modular Power Supply Unit - to deliver the state-of-the-art Ozone Generation System: cost effective, powerful and environmentally friendly.
Over the last 30 years, ozone has been considered a suitable chemical for oxidation processes such as pulp bleaching in the paper industry, municipal drinking water treatment or wastewater treatment and as an alternative of conventional chemicals such as chlorine, chlorine dioxide, hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid.
With a substantial reduction of electrical energy consumption and an ozone concentration rate up to 14% by weight (broad range from 6 to 14 wt%), the combination of the IGS (Intelligent Gap System) Dielectric Technology and MODIPAC™ (Modular Power Supply Unit) improves the efficiency of ozone generation and is perfectly suited for larger installations found in industry, eg pulp bleaching, municipal and wastewater treatment works:

IGS (Intelligent Gap System) Dielectric technology for ozone generators
An ozone generator is basically a machine, which transforms electrical energy into chemical energy. The key element of this physical transformation process is the ozone generator made-up from a number of dielectric elements centred in water cooled earth electrodes. In the small gap between the dielectric and the earth electrode, a controlled electrical discharge transforms a portion of the oxygen in the feed gas (either dry and clean oxygen or air) into ozone.
The segmentation of dielectrics and variable discharge gap are patented key features of the innovative Degrémont Technologies-Ozonia’s IGS (Intelligent Gap System). The result is a substantial reduction of electrical energy consumption and improvement of many other operating parameters.
MODIPAC™ state-of-the-art modular power supply units
The MODIPAC™ (Modular Power Supply Unit) technology is the latest generation of power supply units for Degrémont Technologies-Ozonia’s ozone generators. The main feature of this PSU design is an innovative frequency converter using state-of-the-art Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBT). The development of the "Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors" (IGBT) was a major step forward in semiconductor power technology, which was clearly destined to replace existing technologies such as thyristors and similar components for a vast majority of applications. In order to keep abreast with technological development, Degrémont Technologies-Ozonia embarked on a development program, which has resulted in the top-of-the-line MODIPAC™ modular power supply units which are now used exclusively by Degrémont Technologies-Ozonia for their extensive range of ozone generators.
Main MODIPAC™ features:
Essentially, the MODIPAC™ PSU converts the 3-phase 400/480 VAC, 50/60 Hz mains voltage into a single phase supply at a frequency of 1450 Hz. In simplistic terms, the unit can be divided into two parts: the front-end which rectifies the incoming mains voltage into DC and the inverter part which converts the DC into the frequency required by the ozone generator. Following the MODIPAC™ unit, this single phase medium frequency supply is transformed with a high voltage transformer to the operating voltage level.
The MODIPAC™ is built in standardised 250 kW modules which can be connected together to meet any size of ozone generator or ozone production rate.
After the high voltage transformer, the supply is fed to the fused dielectric elements in the ozone generator and a silent discharge is formed in the gap between the earthed steel pipes in the vessel and the dielectrics. When feed gas, either dry and clean air or oxygen, is passed through this gap, a portion of the oxygen molecules are converted into ozone. The ozone concentration and ozone production rate can be regulated by adjusting the power density and/or the feed gas flow rate.
